Shubhanshu does it again - Selected for NASA s International Space Station

Lucknow, 3 August : Shubhanshu Shukla, an alumnus of City Montessori School, Aliganj Campus I, has once again made the country proud with his extraordinary achievement by being chosen as the first Indian to visit NASA's International Space Station. Shubhanshu has been selected as the prime mission pilot for the Indo-American Space Mission, recently announced by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Earlier, he was also selected for the Gaganyaan mission.

            CMS Manager, Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon expressed her heartfelt happiness on the unprecedented achievement of the outstanding CMS student and said that just a few days ago on 29th May, Shubhanshu had paid a visit to his alma mater CMS Aliganj Campus I, and was accorded a warm welcome by students and teachers for bringing laurels to the school. Shubhanshu’s inspiring interaction with the students on this occasion highlighted the dreams he nurtured while studying there. Prof. Kingdon emphasized that his success has not only brought pride to the school but has also elevated Lucknow on the global stage. She extended her best wishes for his bright future.

               CMS Public Relations Officer Mr Rishi Khanna informed that Shubhanshu has been selected for the joint space mission of ISRO and the US Space Agency, NASA. Thus, he has brought glory to the country as India's second astronaut. Before this Rakesh Sharma had gone to space with the Soviet mission in 1984. Hailing from a simple background, Shubhanshu, a resident of Triveni Nagar, Lucknow has achieved this unprecedented feat with his ability, willpower and determination, of which the whole CMS family is proud.

               Mr Khanna informed that Shubhanshu's training as an astronaut is starting this week and soon Shubhanshu will leave for the International Space Station, where he will conduct scientific research and technology-related experiments. Mr Khanna said that Shubhanshu completed his entire primary education from Montessori to Class 12 from CMS, after which he was selected as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force in 2006.

               Shubhanshu has been awarded the 'Astronaut's Wings' honour by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Mr Khanna expressed confidence that Shubhanshu's exemplary achievement will prove to be an inspiration for all the current students of CMS.
